Finish Building NEW Crane Boom! | Franna Crane Project | Part 17
We're making serious progress on the new boom section for our crane! We start by salvaging parts from the old boom before getting started on the brand new 6 meter RHS (Rectangular Hollow Section). But before installing the custom-built boom end we crafted and built in Part 16, we meticulously weld in all the necessary components like pulley mounts and guide block plates. The new boom end itself goes in smoothly, and then it's time to lay down some serious welds. We weld the boom internally to the RHS and weld all the flat bar onto the main end plates. To finish things off, we tack weld flat bar to the top of the RHS, creating a barrier for the extension cable. This episode is packed with ...

Building NEW Crane Boom End! | Franna Crane Project | Part 16
Просмотров 714 тыс.День назад
The NEW Crane Boom rebuild begins! We're not just patching things up here; we're building a brand new boom end and fall block from scratch. The process begins with laser-cut steel plates that we get into alignment before using our milling machine to create perfectly bored holes for the pins. We then head over to the lathe, where the magic of turning, drilling, and tapping transforms some chrome...

Removing the Cab from the Crane! | Franna Crane Project | Part 15
Просмотров 555 тыс.21 день назад
The Franna Crane project continues in part 15, and this time we’re tackling the rusty, hole-filled cab! We’re ditching the old cab in favour of building a brand new and improved one. But before we can remove it, we have a bit of a detour with the boom lift cylinders - let’s just say it gets “interesting”. Disconnecting the cab is no easy feat either, with a web of hydraulic lines, steering line...

Repairing WORN OUT Planetary Carrier for Cat 740 Truck | Making Custom Boring Bar
Просмотров 678 тыс.Месяц назад
We're tackling a worn-out planetary carrier from a Caterpillar 740 Articulated haul truck's diff final drive. The challenge? The damaged gear thrust faces are located within a hard-to-reach location on the carrier housing, making them difficult to repair with conventional tools. So that means we need to make a custom boring bar specifically designed to access those tricky areas with our milling...

I wonder why didnt you machine off the siezed nut, by holding the piston rod on the lathe, instead of all that "gauging and hamnering." If finally the shaft had to be put on lathe, and new nut was required to be made, why all this drama and wastage of time and undue risk?
